At OIXDESIGN, material is never just a surface choice. It shapes the weight, mood, texture, and final presence of each piece. From marble, travertine, granite, and onyx to more distinctive natural stones, our collections are defined not only by the stone itself, but also by how it is shaped, finished, and refined by hand.
More than a surface treatment
A true natural stone piece is formed from the material itself. Its final character comes not only from the stone type, but also from the way it is cut, shaped, hollowed, refined, and finished. This is especially important in sculptural sinks, integrated basins, pedestal sinks, bathtubs, and architectural stone pieces, where craftsmanship and finish can dramatically change the final visual effect.
Natural stone categories we work with
Our work includes a broad range of natural stones selected according to the design direction, functional needs, and intended interior atmosphere. Common materials include marble, travertine, granite, onyx, sandstone, limestone, riverstone, and selected specialty stones. Each material carries its own visual rhythm, density, color movement, and tactile quality—from quieter and more grounded expressions to more dramatic and visually distinctive statements.
Finish directions
Different finishes can significantly change the mood of a stone piece. A honed finish may feel quieter and more architectural, while a polished finish can bring more depth, contrast, and visual clarity to the stone movement. In other cases, more tactile finishes help preserve a stronger handcrafted or natural character on the exterior surface. The right finish is always chosen according to both the stone type and the design intent.
From honed and polished to more tactile hand-finished surfaces
Depending on the piece and the material, finish options may include honed, polished, flamed, chiseled, hand-picked, and other hand-finished surface treatments. In many sinks, basins, and bathtubs, interior and exterior surfaces are also treated differently. Interior surfaces are commonly refined in honed or polished finishes for a cleaner appearance and more practical daily use, while exterior surfaces may remain smoother and more minimal or be given more textured hand-finished treatments to strengthen the sculptural character of the piece. These finish choices help balance practicality with material expression.
Why material and finish matter in custom projects
For custom projects, material and finish decisions affect far more than appearance alone. They influence visual weight, maintenance expectations, tactile experience, light reflection, and how well the piece aligns with the atmosphere of the interior. This is why stone selection and finish direction are often a central part of our design and project discussions, especially for hospitality spaces, public washrooms, custom bath environments, and statement furniture pieces.
We commonly work with marble, travertine, granite, onyx, sandstone, limestone, riverstone, and selected specialty stones depending on the design and project requirements.
A honed finish usually feels softer, quieter, and more architectural, while a polished finish brings more reflectivity, depth, and visual contrast to the stone.
Not always. In many sinks, basins, and bathtubs, interior and exterior surfaces are finished differently to balance practicality, maintenance, and visual character.
Yes. Depending on the stone type and design direction, we can support a range of smoother or more tactile hand-finished surface treatments.
Absolutely. Finish direction can significantly change how a piece feels in the space—from more minimal and calm to more dramatic, tactile, or sculptural.
