Comparing Stone Project Quotes: Check the Scope Behind the Total

Updated on
Stone samples beside an open notebook and pencil on a design worktable; an illustrative setting for preparing a stone project specification.

Two stone project quotes can carry similar product names while covering different work. Before comparing totals, align the exact specification and the services included. A clear comparison helps you see whether a difference comes from the product, the delivery scope or a question that has not yet been resolved.

Use one reference specification

Give each quote a common reference: the product or drawing name, revision date, quantity, dimensions, selected material and finish. Separate confirmed choices from requests still awaiting review. “Stone table” or “custom basin” is too broad to make two proposals directly comparable.

For custom work, keep the reference images distinct from the dimensions and written requirements. A visual reference explains an intention; it does not automatically specify the construction, included fittings or finished size.

Build a scope comparison

Item What to record
Product Model or drawing revision, quantity, material, finish and dimensions.
Price basis Currency, unit and total prices, treatment of taxes and import charges, amounts still to be confirmed, payment stages and quotation validity date.
Coordination Which drawings, samples or review steps are included, if any.
Accessories Each fitting or component explicitly included or excluded.
Delivery The stated destination and where the service ends.
Site work Who handles unloading, movement inside the property and installation.
Timing Which approvals start production, with preparation and shipping estimates recorded separately.
Open items Unconfirmed requirements and the person expected to answer them.

Use “not stated” when a quote does not answer a question. Do not turn silence into “included.” Keep the supplier's wording beside your notes so a short summary does not accidentally broaden the scope.

Resolve differences before ranking the totals

Suppose one proposal describes delivery to an accessible receiving point and another includes additional placement services. Those are different offers even if the product looks similar. Ask each supplier to clarify the service boundary for the actual project address and access conditions.

Use the same approach for dimensions and finishes. If one quote refers to an earlier drawing, request a current version before treating the total as comparable. Keep alternatives on separate lines rather than mixing a preferred option with a lower-specification substitute.

End with a short list of decisions

A useful comparison should lead to specific questions: which specification are we choosing, what remains excluded, and what must happen before the supplier can confirm timing? Record the response and its date next to the affected item.

For an OIXDESIGN enquiry, use Request a Quote with the current product reference or drawings and a concise description of the project. The custom bath projects overview can help you frame a bathroom enquiry. Confirm the applicable scope in the actual proposal; this checklist does not promise that any particular service is included.
